Abstract: The performance of organic photovoltaics (OPVs) is limited by recombination inside the bulk heterojunctions (BHJs) and voltage losses in peripheral layers (edges). In this talk, we will discuss both types of losses under various conditions. A practical method called bulk quantum efficiency (BQE) analysis will be introduced to easily separate the properties of the BHJ from edges, allowing independent optimization of the active layer. The BQE analysis is then applied to study both the photo- and thermal-stabilities of OPVs and reveal various mechanisms related to OPV degradation.
