Elliot Soloway selected for Google App Engine Education Award

Prof. Elliot Soloway, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor and Professor in Computer Science and Engineering, School of Education, and School of Information, has received a Google App Engine Education Award to support the development of the WeCollabrify Mobile Platform.

The Google App Engine Education Awards programoffers access to the Google App Engine infrastructure to higher education for the purpose of creating tools, applications, and curriculum that can be used by other educators in their own teaching environments. Proposed projects must support either teaching or learning activities.

Prof. Soloway’s research interests include the use of technology in education and the development of software that takes into consideration the unique needs of learners. He teaches courses in mobile applications development and encourages his students to think entrepreneurially about their projects and the opportunities that exist in the mobile development space.

Prof. Soloway received both his PhD and MS in Computer and Information Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He joined the faculty at Michigan in 1988 and is associated with the Interactive Systems Lab. Prof. Soloway is highly regarded for his inspirational teaching style, and has been recognized for this with a Thurnau Professorship for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, the U-M Golden Apple Award for Teaching, and Distinguished Teaching Awards from U-M and UMass. He has twice been named Teacher of the Year in EECS by students in the U-M HKN Honor Society.
