Nowruz Celebration

SHARE:

Nowruz, meaning “new Day,” is the name for the Iranian/Persian New Year. It is the first day of the first month in the Iranian calendar. Nowruz (or Nooruz) is celebrated primarily in Western and Central Asia including 17 countries. Mini celebrations occur around the world. Nowruz coincides with the vernal equinox, or the first day of spring in northern hemisphere (including North America). The moment the sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year, and families gather together to observe the rituals. It has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years.
