Next Generation MicroChem Lab Development at Sandia National Laboratories

An overview of recent developments toward the next generation microChem Lab at Sandia National Laboratories will be presented with an emphasis on efforts to reduce size, increase speed of analysis, and reduce false positives. The microChem Lab is a gas phase vapor analyzer consisting of a MEMS selective preconcentrator, GC column, and detector. The primary mission for the system has been for the detection of chemical weapons; however the system has been modified for a variety of applications ranging from water analysis to residual solvent analysis in the pharmaceutical industry.
