Capitalizing on Innovation: Marrying Engineering with Business Leadership
Daniel Moloney (BSE EE "81), Past President of Motorola Mobility, was with Motorola and General Instrument Corporation (acquired by Motorola in early 2000) from 1983 until 2012, with the exception of a short time in 2010 when he served as the President and CEO of Technitrol, Inc. During these 20 years, he has been at the forefront of key technological breakthroughs that include building some of the most advanced cable systems in the world, pioneering digital TV and HDTV, introducing third party applications into the TV space, and launching home automation's first commercial-scale deployment over cable systems.

He served in many executive capacities for Motorola, including leading the Home business from 2002 – 2007, and the Home & Networks Mobility business from 2007 – 2009, during which time he led the expansion of this business into a worldwide leader in both video and WiMAX wireless solutions. Most recently, as President of Motorola Mobility, he provided leadership for Motorola's Home business, Advanced Technology team, Supply Chain, IT and Government Relations functions, and led Motorola's strategy for leveraging the convergence of wired/wireless technologies.

In August 2011, Google announced plans to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion, with plans to build on the existing Android ecosystem and enhance competition in mobile computing. Dan left the company in July 2012 to pursue other opportunities.

Dan Moloney received the 2012 Vanguard Award for Associates & Affiliates from the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA). The Vanguard Awards are the cable industry's most prestigious awards.
