Control in Driver Assist Technologies

Increasing consumer demand, cost reduction of sensing, and electrification of vehicle actuation have made driver assist systems more prevalent in modern automobiles. In this talk, we discuss some recent driver assist technologies and the control challenges involved, including trailer backup assist, low-speed braking control and lane centering steering control. Some focus will be directed towards the tools needed to aid development.
Mike Hafner has been a research engineer with the Autonomous Vehicles Department at Ford Motor Company since 2012, where he has worked on trailer backup assist and steering control. He received his PhD in 2012 in the EECS department at the University of Michigan, with a research focus in safety control. His research interests include nonlinear control, vehicle dynamics and control systems implementation.
