USA v. Sweden: Women's World Cup

SHARE:

It's no secret that the USA Women's National Team, ranked #1 in the world, has dominated international soccer for over 2 decades. They've won three World Cups and four Olympics (more than any other women's team), and they are the reigning World Cup champs. They've medaled in every single World Cup and Olympic Games in history – until they met Sweden in the quarterfinal of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Sweden took USA down in a penalty shootout – the worst finish in a major tournament in the history of the US Women's National Team. Sweden went on to a Silver place finish, and now, the two teams will meet up in the final group stage game of the 2019 World Cup – most likely to play for winner of the group. USA isn't just looking to defend their World Cup title – they're looking for revenge, but Sweden – who have their own strong history of success in the women's game – has been USA's achilles heel for the past few years. Will the Swedes once again be a thorn in the side of the Queens of International Soccer? This game is sure to be a knock-down, drag-out fight, for – as the promo videos for USA warn – "if you come at the Queen, you best not miss."
