Sloan Foundation Science on Screen Night: The Imitation Game

This special screening of The Imitation Game will be preceded by "breaking the Codes," a lecture by Prof. Kevin Compton on WWII cryptography and the life of Alan Turing.

The event is open to the public but discount vouchers are available only to a limited number of CS and CE students!

CSE has arranged for 1000 discount vouchers which will be made available to our students on a first come, first serve basis. One voucher is available per student. With a voucher, the price for admission for the Jan. 8 Science on Screen event will be $3.00. The event is also open to the public for full price seating.

Students can get a voucher at the Foo Bar on the first floor of the Beyster Building, right behind the spiral staircase. Vouchers will be available from Tuesday, Dec. 9 through Thursday, Dec. 11, between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm. Any remaining vouchers will be distributed after the seasonal break on Jan. 7th and 8th.

Breaking the Codes:

Prof. Kevin Compton will speak before the film on the science of cryptography, the different versions of the Enigma machine that Nazi Germany used to encode communications during World War II, other WW II cryptanalysis efforts, and the life of Alan Turing. There will be a brief Q&A session after the movie.

The Imitation Game:

A film portrayal of English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and pioneering computer scientist Alan Turing, who helps to crack the code used by the Enigma machine during World War II. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kiera Knightley, and Matthew Goode.
