Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) has the potential to improve road safety and aid in traffic management. While VANET is useful as a form of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), it is also a double-edged sword. Malicious peers in a road network can send false messages, potentially leading to vehicle crashes.

This talk presents a unified framework for trust management in VANET. The key techniques of this framework are as follows: 1) It provides a logical structure for information collection, information analysis, and decision making in a VANET environment; 2) It utilizes a set of mathematical equations to establish the ground truth from wisdom of the crowd; and 3) It utilizes conditional probability to verify the accuracy of the framework. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed framework is accurate and scalable.
Jared Oluoch defended his doctoral dissertation in Computer Science & Informatics at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and expects to be awarded a PhD in June. He received a Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MIS) from University of Nebraska, Omaha. His research interests are in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET), mobile computing, information security, cyber security, and wireless networks. In his spare time, he likes to do volunteer activities within the community around him.
