Nanostructures including nanotube, nanowire, nanoparticles and single molecules are promising materials for advanced electronics as well as fundamental studies. When dimensions of a material are smaller than certain characteristic length, new phenomena show up in the corresponding research field. In this talk, I will discuss two type charge transport processes through nanoscale structure: coherent electron transport in single carbon nanotube and single molecules; ionic transport through individual inorganic nanotube heterojuction. Through this discussion, I hope to show some ways how nanostructure devices could be used to address many important problems in electronics, spintronics and energy science.
