“I am most interested in robotics research because we as scientists are pushing the envelope to reinvent human perception and control systems in digital autonomy, and these present as some of the field’s hardest problems. One day we’ll hopefully be able to leverage human-level consciousness in a robot that is precisely designed for space exploration, equipped with the tools needed to be the perfect deep-space cowboy.”

“ECE at the University of Michigan pushes its students to be universally excellent. My favorite experience related to this happened during EECS 473, where we were challenged to make a small embedded systems product that a true market might be interested in purchasing. My group made a smart door lock with some special features and received a B+, which we were happy with. Six months later we found an article announcing a new commercial product that had the same features, performing exceptionally in the market, which at that point was icing on the cake.”
